Every dreary day, Zach Driscoll takes the elevator from the penthouse apartment of his father's building to his coldly charmed life where being a union lawyer instead of a corporate lawyer is an act of rebellion. Every day, that is, until the day the elevator breaks and Sean Mallory practically runs into his arms.

Substitute teacher Sean Mallory is everything Zach is not - poor, happy, and goofily charming. With a disarming smile and a penchant for drama, Sean laughs his way into Zach's heart one elevator ride at a time. Zach would love to get to know Sean better, but first he needs the courage to leave his ivory tower and face a relationship that doesn't end at the "Ding!"

4.5/5.0
This is a happy, non angsty, Amy Lane. I loved it. Don't get me wrong I love all Amy Lane, angst or not. Going Up is sweet with a fairytale like feel to the story. Zach is a prince in his tower, always doing what is expected of him, not being true to himself. The closest he has ever gotten is being a union lawyer instead of a corporate lawyer. One day the express elevator from his penthouse breaks down and he has to get off on the nineteenth floor. He takes the regular elevators down and on the fourteenth floor a man rushes into the elevator wearing a cowboy outfit. He learns this eccentric man is a substitute teacher and older than he thinks. Zach is fascinated by this encounter and hopes to run into him again. Eventually he learns the young mans name is Sean, and they develop a friendship in the length of time they have between the fourteenth and first floors.

The story is a sweet look into Zachs life - or lack of life. His secretary,Leah, turns out to be a wonderful friend. The developing relationship between Zach and Sean is sweet and playful and the entire time I am so hoping they will be able to extend this beyond the elevator. Which You will have to read to find out.

This was a wonderful addition to my holiday reading list and I enjoyed it very much.

Going Up (Audible Audio Edition) Amy Lane Paul Woodson Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews

This was a very quick read. Perfect for a snowy afternoon. I love that their whole relationship. There was no big drama or fighting which was really nice. Just a story about a guy that was lonely and found a reason to change that on the elevator of his apartment building. If you are looking for a light hearted read on a lazy afternoon this is a great book for that.
Amy Lane can write really intense, dramatic angst filled romances, but every so often she pops out a light confection of a book. You will finish this in one sitting, like a really delicious eclair. I loved how the two men spent so much time just meeting in the elevator, not taking it anywhere else, not even exchanging names (let alone phone numbers!)

This felt a like a sweet version of a fairy tale, the prince trapped in the tower, looking for his knight in shining armour...

Although short, it was very sweet and I highly recommend.
A gentle, magical novella from the empress of angst. Zach and Sean, two young gay professional men from different worlds, who live in different parts of the same urban high-rise.

An elevator brings them together, but Zach's "best little boy in the world" syndrome keeps them from being more than elevator friends.

There's no point in describing this - just read it. Lane is masterful at taking a very little premise and with her magical wand of words transforming it into a tale of love to the rescue.

I'll note that one of the details that moved me most in "Going Up" was the very vivid clarification of the difference between having sex and making love.
This is all kinds of cute. The initial glimpses Zach got of Sean in the elevator revealed through his inner monologue just how awesome a sense of humor Zach had and made me sad to see how much of his real personality he was hiding from the world. Or I suppose it was really his parents, who were truly heartless people. I enjoyed seeing Zach slowly come out of his shell the more his feelings developed for Sean. And when they finally came together? Beautiful, touching, tender and sweet. I'm pleased that Zach saw how important to his life Sean was and knew from their first meeting that he is keeper.
AL can be hit or miss for me, this was a hit, so yaay! I adored how this story played out and of course I was hungry for more between these two. I would have loved to know what happened when the inevitable parental meeting happened with Zach's disapproving parents. This short story hit every like for me, the elevator incidences, oh they just stole my heart with the sweet exchanges. The moment with the train conductor outfit just captured my heart and gave me the feelz. I also loved that, although this was not a long book, the timeline played out over months and that there was time for these two lovely men to settle into whatever romance they had going. I am off now to stand by the elevator and see what I can see, lol. Cupid, pirate, train conductor, I would love to see this one day.
While this was a cute quick read it lacked the character growth and development of the romance to really capture my heart. Love a first sight is great in the first scene, but then I want to see situations that show why these characters are going to develop a lasting love that will grow and stand the test of time. Not a waste of time but not on my favorites list.
This is one of my favorite stories by Amy Lane. I re-read it frequently. It's the charming tale of two men find love while riding in the elevator. Week after week, they notice one another, hold the door for each other, and begin a shy, strange relationship that seems destined to live and die behind the mirrored doors of their apartment building elevator. Finally, Sean Mallory makes a move that brings Zach Driscoll out of his shell and their relationship out of the elevator.

This darling little story is quick and an easy read, with low angst and an "awww" factor of one billion and one. If you want a lighthearted, sweet tale, this is fabulous story by Amy Lane is for you.
